Laundry

I told Tightwad Daddy the other day that I think we have the amount of laundry that a family of 10 would have.
And it's totally not my fault.

Anywho, thanks to my friend Leiber for reminding me of the deets of this fantastic recipe for HOMEMADE LAUNDRY SOAP:

1-55 oz box of Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda
1-75 oz box of Borax
1-48 oz box of Kosher Salt
1-2 oz box of food grade citric acid (if you can't find this, you can use 10-15 lemonade kool aid packs (the unsweetened ones where you can often get them 5 for $1.00 )
1-gallon vinegar (see note below because this is only for the rinse agent)

Here's the breakdown and directions:
1/2 cup borax
1/2 cup washing soda
1/4 cup citric acid (or koolaid packets)
1/4 cup kosher salt
The above ingredients just need to be shaken well.

1 gallon white vinegar is added in the rinse agent location. Do not add to the mix above.

(**note** you only need to use 1 rounded tablespoon of this homemade detergent per load. If you feel it necessary… you may use a heaping tablespoon, but I do not.)

The total comes out to be just a little over $2.00 for 24 oz container.

Hi there, what a new take on an old recipe. What does the citric acid do I wonder? I have not seen that in any other laundry powder recipe but have seen it included in home made dishwasher powder.
Why do you add it?
Kind thanks,
Miss Sandra
