Safety While Internet Shopping

Cyber Monday takes the shopping frenzy online. But how do you know which websites to find the best deals? First, make sure your computer and Internet connection is secure.

Experts said when you are shopping on the Web, you should keep three things in mind:

1. Stick to the websites you know.

Only go to well-known stores’ websites and price comparison sites. Don’t let a search engine pick a website for you. Use a direct web address for stores you know.

2. Get the details of your order.

Make sure you know when it is expected to ship to your home, and mark your calendar for when it should arrive.

3. Make sure the website is secure.

There are a few ways to make yourself feel safe on a site. When you are officially on the billing page, you should notice the beginning of the page URL change from http:// to https:// -- that additional s means the site is secure, and your information will be securely passed along.

Some other things to keep in mind

Know the company’s refund and return policies before ordering.
Are there restocking fees? Do you have to pay shipping costs on returns? Find out before you pay.

Do not rely on pictures of a product on a website.
They are not always accurate. Instead, read the description and check the model numbers.

Click on and read all the store’s terms and conditions before you order anything online.
