What are you doing This Weekend?

FRIDAY

Family Movie in the City Centre Park Amphitheater in St. Peters. Featured film is Up. Warmer weather means the city of St. Peters brings back its popular Movies in the Park series. 8 p.m. Bring the family and come prepared to relax and be entertained. Concessions will be available for purchase or you may bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. In case of inclement weather, the movie will be shown inside City Hall.

Art on the Square. Friday, May 14, 2010 - 5:00 - 9:00 pm/Saturday, May 15, 2010 - 10:00 am - 8:00 pm/Sunday, May 16, 2010 - 11:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Movie Night at Schroeder Park. Enjoy "Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone" beginning at about 8:15 p.m. or dusk.

Friday Night Flicks at Frenchtown. The free community movie event begins at 7:30 and the movie begins at dusk. At 4th and Clark in historic St. Charles on the grounds of the Academy of the Sacred Heart. This week's movie: UP.

SATURDAY

WildFlower Surprise. Families with children ages 5 and up will enjoy a wildflower hike. Surprises await as you explore the various flower habitats and Emmenegger Nature Park. Use your senses and observe flower anatomy, shape, color and smells. Following the hike, participants will pot mystery seeds. 10-11:30 a.m. at Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center, 11715 Cragwold Road, Kirkwood. More information and reservations: 314-301-1500.

Spring Chemical Collection. Leftover household chemicals can be dropped off for free and be disposed of safety at this Spring household chemical collection event sponsored by the St. Louis County Health Department. Unwanted chemicals, such as paints, stains, pesticides, herbicides, motor oil, flourescent tunes, rechargeable batteries, anti-freeze, pool chemicals and more will be disposed of in a safe way that will pose no harm to the environment. Proof of St. Louis County residence is required. 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Parkway Central High School, 369 North Woods Mill Road. More information call 314-615-4130.

Armed Forces Day event. This year, the Armed Forces Day Festival will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at City Centre (near City Hall).
• A military helicopter will land at City Centre at 9:40 a.m., weather permitting. You’ll want to hold onto your hat for this touchdown.
• A ceremony at the Veterans Memorial will honor veterans of the post-Vietnam era. The ceremony will follow the helicopter landing.
• Military equipment will be parked in the City Centre parking lot for close inspection—kids can climb aboard much of the equipment.
• Military weapons will be on display for viewing.
• Other activities include a climbing wall.
• Veterans Benefits Fair––representatives will be available to answer questions from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. to help area veterans learn more about their benefits.
The City of St. Peters and the St. Peters Veterans Memorial Commission invite you to help us show our appreciation to area veterans.

The Lodge of Des Peres is hosting Monster Machine Day at Des Peres Park. Kids can see a police car, bull-dozer, fire truck and much more up close during this “hands on” event. Climb in and look around and let your imagination take you on a ride! The program is free and no registration is required. 9 a.m. to Noon at Des Peres Park, parking lot, 12325 Manchester Road. May be cancelled in the event of rain.

Strawberry Festival. Grab your family and friends and head to the family farm for the annual Strawberry Festival at Eckerts in Belleville. Enjoy outdoor festival foods and country music at this old-fashioned all-American festival. Free wagon rides. Live music from noon to 5 p.m. each day. Kid’s activities include pony rides, children’s play area, petting farm, carnival rides and inflatables. Strawberry treats in the bakery, custard shop and restaurant! Fee charged for some activities. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Continues on Sunday and again on May 22 & 23. 951 Green Mount Road, Belleville, Ill.

Annie Malone May Day Parade. This St. Louis tradition began over a century ago in the historic African-American Greater Ville Neighborhood when thousands of St. Louisans would gather to honor Annie Malone, the founder of Poro College and the noted children's home that carries her name. The Annie Malone May Day Parade begins at 1:00 p.m. and starts at 20th along Market Street, heading east to Broadway. 1 p.m.
