FRIDAY

Storytelling in the Galleries: Pirate Party. In honor of the new exhibit: Treasure!, listen to stories about funny pirates and buried treasure. Groups of eight of more children must register: 314-454-3114. 10:30 a.m. Missouri History Museum in Forest Park.

Halloween Hoedown is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 23 at Eureka Community Center. Halloween crafts, games, a costume contest and some outdoor activities are featured. Admission is one non-perishable food item per person. Kids receive a treat bag. Tickets are required and must be picked up and the Eureka Parks and Recreation Office. Those obtaining tickets before Oct. 19 must show proof of Eureka residency. Call 938-6775.

SATURDAY

Pirates of the Mississippi. Pirates didn't only haunt the Caribbean. This puppet show tells the harrowing stories of swashbuckling denizens of the rivers close to home. 2 p.m. At the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park.

Boo at the Zoo Spooky Saturday. Mummies and Daddies are invited to bring their little ghouls and goblins for safe and free trick-or-treating, entertainment, games and a costume parade along the Pumpkin Trail. Children are encouraged to wear costumes. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Saint Louis Zoo.

Build & Grow Clinic. 10-11 am. Make a MAGIC TRICK KIT this time! Must register.

Apple Butter Festival. Vendor booths fill the city park and line the streets of Kimmswick selling a variety of crafts and food items. Live entertainment, pumpkin carving and apple butter making are just some of the other activities. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kimmswick, Mo.

Un-Haunted Halloween. Kids ages 3-10 can enjoy the Halloween Village. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Shaw Nature Reserve, Highway 100 and I-44, Gray Summit. More information: 636-451-3512.

Bass Pro Family Fun. 10 am -4 pm. Go check it out (too much to list!).

Trunk ‘r Treat is at 6 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 24 at Rockwood Baptist Church (1400 Babler Park Drive) in Wildwood. A casual supper, bonfire, hayrides, costumes and treats from decorated car trunks on the parking lot are featured. Call 636-458-3885.

Family Hike. During this hike for all ages, it's time for fall colors to take center stage. Learn why some leaves are yellow and some red and use fall colors and other characteristics to identify trees. It's a two-mile hike along Turkey Ridge Trail. 8:30-11:30 a.m. Rockwoods Reservation, 2751 Glencoe Road, Wildwood. More information and reservations: 636-458-2236.

Halloween Concert. Come in costume for a special Halloween-themed performance by the Symphony Society of St. Charles. 7-8:30 p.m. at St. Peters City Hall.

Ottertoberfest. In honor of the fun-loving North American River Otters, the Saint Louis Zoo will host Ottertoberfest, a fall event featuring traditional German biergartens, live music, kids' activities and more. Kids activities include an otterific obstacle course, otter tracks and crafts designed for ages 2-10. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
