What Are You Doing This Weekend?


FRIDAY
Storytelling in the Galleries: Baker's Dozen. October is National Cookie Month, so come hear stories like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and other stories about yummy treats. Free. Groups of eight of more children must register: 314-454-3114. 10:30 a.m. Missouri History Museum in Forest Park.
Public Astronomy Night. Come spend the evening viewing the cosmos with your family! Please take note that the dome is neither heated nor cooled, so pay attention to the weather and dress in a manner that is appropriate. If it is raining or cloudy, a planetrium program will be presented instead. 8:30-10:30. Pattonville Heights Middle School, 195 Fee Fee Rd., Maryland Heights.
Owl Prowl. Families can learn about owls in Missouri, their behaviors and habitat, then take a short hike and try to call some owls close enough to see. 7-8:30 p.m. August A. Busch Conservation Nature Center, 2360 Highway D, St. Charles. More information and registration: 636-441-4554.
O'Fallon Fall Festival and Craft Bazaar. Live music, craft booths, a kids area and more. 5-9 p.m. Civic Park, O'Fallon, Mo.
St. Charles Bicenttenial Celebration. 6-10 pm. Live entertainment, food and beverages, hayrides and an outdoor movie. BBQ will be available from local restaurants.
SATURDAY
Ottertoberfest. In honor of the fun-loving North American River Otters, the Saint Louis Zoo will host Ottertoberfest, a fall event featuring traditional German biergartens, live music, kids' activities and more. Kids activities include an otterific obstacle course, otter tracks and crafts designed for ages 2-10. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Lowe's Build & Grow Clinic. Learn to build a ball toss at this activity for kids. Visit the Lowe's website for area locations and to complete & fill out papers. 10-11 am. You have to register!!
4th Annual Big Read Festival. A festival for book lovers featuring national authors, book sellers, readings, book signings, workshops, demonstrations and an interactive children's area. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the campus of Clayton High School, Mark Twain Circle & Topton Way.
The Forest in Fall. The glorious fall months between the hit summer and cold winter give forest plants and animals a chance to prepare for coming hard times. Squirrels are busy burying acorns for winter, but you can find out about other forest plants and animals that are getting ready for winter. For ages 4-8. 2-3:30 p.m. Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center, 11715 Cragwold Road, Kirkwood.
St. Charles Bicentennial Parade & Celebration. 2-6 pm. Parade, picnic, storytelling, & entertainment.

SUNDAY
Family Fun Day. This fun-filled afternoon focuses on the upcoming Treature! exhibit. There will be pirate-themed storytelling, a puppet show, hands-on activities for children of all ages and information about modern-day treasure hunters. 1-3 p.m. at the Missouri History Museum MacDermott Grand Hall.

Creve Coeur Safety Fair. The Creve Coeur Police and Fire Protection Department and 40 other agencies will display their equipment, along with other attractions such as canine demonstrations, free child fingerprinting, free seasonal flu shots, helmet fitting, car seat inspections and more. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital.
