What Are You Doing This Weekend?


FRIDAY


Drop-in Make and Take Workshops. Children of all ages will enjoy creating arts and crafts projects inspired by objects and themes in the exhibitions of the Missouri History Museum. Just drop in and join the fun. Free. Large groups are encouraged to make reservations by calling 314-361-9017. In the MacDermott Grand Hall. 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free, 15-minute family tours of the museum are also offered Tuesdays through Fridays at 11:15 a.m. and are aimed at children ages 2-7. Tri-County Health Fair. Families from St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties, especially those who are uninsured or covered by MO HealthNet, are invited to get free health screenings, back to school physicals and bike helmet fittings. Refreshments and some donated school supplies will be available. Calvary Church-West Campus, 2805 Dietrich Road, Wentzville

Safety Street. Bring the whole family for interactive fun that is good for the mind and good for the body. St. Louis Children's Hospital rolls out Kohl's Safety Street, an interactive "town" where children learn important safety messages that include pedestrian safety and how to deal with strangers and neighborhood animals. Safety Street will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the St. Louis Galleria in Brentwood at Highway 170.


Naturalist Hide and Guide Fridays. Families can take a walk through Powder Valley Nature Center and trails to look for the naturalist, who will be waiting to guide families through a mystery activity. Free. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Powder Valley Nature Center, 11715 Cragwold Road, Kirkwood. No reservations are required. More information: 314-301-1500.


If You Care, Leave Them There. Kids ages 3-6 will learn what to do if they find a baby bird on the ground, then learn about hatchlings, nestlings and fledglings. A crafts and short hike are included. 10-11:30 a.m. Powder Valley Nature Center, 11715 Cragwold Road, Kirkwood. Reservations required: 314-301-1500.


Magic House Free Family Night. The Magic House holds Free Family Nights every third Friday of the month. These special nights enable a family (no more than two adults and four of their own children) to enjoy the more than 100 hands-on exhibits in the museum. Reservations are not required. 5-8 pm.

Jungle Boogie. The Jungle Boogie Friday Night Concert Series at the Zoo runs thru September 4. Scheduled this Friday is Charles Glenn (Jazz/R&B). 5-8 pm.


Live on the Levee. Enjoy live music, great food, kids activities. The AmerenUE/Schnucks K-Town Kids Zone will be open from 6pm - 8pm. The whole event ends at 10 pm.


SATURDAY

We All Scream for Ice Cream! July is National Ice Cream Month. Go to the Missouri History Museum learn about the history of the ice cream cone at the 1904 World's Fair and hear stories about ice cream. Activities start at noon, and include crafts and storytelling, and free ice cream from North Star from 2 - 4 p.m., with an appearance by Norton the Penguin (don't forget your camera).


Tower Grove Movie Night. Free movie starts at 8:30 p.m. A League of Their Own. Tower Grove Park.


Pet Adoption Day. Stray Rescue of St. Louis. Stray Rescue Adoption Day. Pets in all shapes and sizes will be available for adoption to loving homes. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Whole Foods Market, 1601 S. Brentwood Blvd, and 1160 Town and Country Crossing Drive.

Chinese Art & Culture Day. Children's & emerging artists galleries, dancers, calligraphy, origami and other Chinese paper art. 1-3 pm. 520 N. Main, St. Charles (636) 255-0270.


Music at Metter. The city of Columbia, IL is hosting a summer concert series at Metter Park. Bring your own blanket or lawn chair. 6-8 pm.
