What Are You Doing This Weekend?


FRIDAY


Healthy Family Expo Featuring Kohl's Safety Street. Bring the whole family for interactive fun that is good for the mind and good for the body. St. Louis Children's Hospital and the Missouri History Museum rolls out Kohl's Safety Street, an interactive "town" where children learn important safety messages that include pedestrian safety and how to deal with strangers and neighborhood animals. Other activities that families can participate in include making a healthy snack and creating crafts to take home. Safety Street will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the AT&T Foundation Multipurpose Room. More information:www.mohistory.org

Drop-in Make and Take Workshops. Children of all ages will enjoy creating arts and crafts projects inspired by objects and themes in the exhibitions of the Missouri History Museum. Just drop in and join the fun. Free. Large groups are encouraged to make reservations by calling 314-361-9017. In the MacDermott Grand Hall. 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free, 15-minute family tours of the museum are also offered Tuesdays through Fridays at 11:15 a.m. and are aimed at children ages 2-7. Naturalist Hide and Guide Fridays. Families can take a walk through Powder Valley Nature Center and trails to look for the naturalist, who will be waiting to guide families through a mystery activity. Free. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Powder Valley Nature Center, 11715 Cragwold Road, Kirkwood. No reservations are required. More information: 314-301-1500.

Free Movie: Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert. The tween/teen star in concert. 2 p.m. St. Louis County Library, Headquarters Branch, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd., Frontenac. More information: 314-994-3300.

Jungle Boogie.  The Jungle Boogie Friday Night Concert Series at the Zoo runs thru September 4.  Scheduled this Friday is Ticket to the Beatles.  5-8 pm.

Des Peres Summer Concert Series.  7:00,  at the Des Peres Park Lake.  There's limited parking in the park, extra parking is available at the Edward Jones building, just off I-270 and Manchester Road.  Concessions will be available.  Outside food and drink is allowed. (NO glass bottles please.)

Starlight Movie Series.  8:45, The city of Eureka is hosting a summer movie series on the lawn at City Hall.  In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Community Center.  This week's movie is The Tale of Despereaux.


SATURDAY


Botanical Garden Free Morning.  Admission to the Missouri Botanical Garden is FREE every Wednesday and Saturday morning. From 9am - Noon, St. Louis City and St. Louis County residents (bring proof of residency) can get into the garden for free all year. Free admission may not be available during special events.

Lowe’s has their build and grow clinic this weekend.  Looks like the kids will be making some fun things.  They will be making treasure chests and helicopters.  Classes are from 10-11 AM.  Register for the class HERE.

Snakes and Salamanders. Can snakes swim? Where do salamanders live? This workshop for families with kids aged 6 and up explores those questions and more about the snakes and salamanders of Missouri. 10-11:30 a.m. August A.
