Friday
Storytelling in the Museum. These programs engage the youngest visitors & their families in historic paintings and objects by using traditional and contemporary stories. Children will also enjoy a hands-on craft or other activity. Programs are held Fridays at 10:30 a.m. (for ages 2-6) in the museum galleries and Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. (for ages 10 and under) in museum classrooms. Check with the Information Desk for locations.
First Fridays at the Science Center. The Saint Louis Science Center has created unique Friday evening family entertainment with special features in its galleries, the OMNIMAX Theater and the Planetarium. This week, the evening kicks off with a free Dino Egg Hunt, with dino-sized eggs and fabulous prizes inside hidden throughou the building, including the James S. McDonnell Planetarium, so hunters can explore the museum while searching. The adventure lasts until 9:30 p.m. or until all the eggs are found. Prizes include a trip for two to Chicago to see the T. rex's real skeleton, free Science Center memberships, a free birthday party at the Science Center, a free week of Summer Science Blast Camp and more. Take A Micro-Hike. Kids ages 3-6 will pretend to shrink down to micro-size to take a hike on the forest floor and learn about the tiny creatures that live there. Be ready to get messy during the small-scale adventure through the different habitats of the local nature center. 1-2:30 p.m. Reservations required. Saturday
Spring Cleaning Rummage Sale. The Edward Jones Family YMCA, 12521 Marine Avenue, will hold this rummage sale to benefit YMCA World Service. Donated item can be dropped off on April 2 and 3 until 5 p.m. All donations – clothes, furniture, appliances, toys, books, etc., are accepted and tax deductible. The rummage sale will be held today from 6 a.m. until noon. More information: 314-439-8007, ext. 227.
Missouri Botanical Garden Free Morning. 9-noon. Admission to the Missouri Botanical Garden is FREE every Wednesday and Saturday morning. From 9am - Noon, St. Louis City and St. Louis County residents (bring proof of residency) can get into the garden for free all year. Free admission may not be available during special events. Home Depot Build a Window Birdhouse workshop. 9-noon. No reservations necessary, which means you'd better not dilly-dally. Details here.
Kirkwood Farmers' Market will open for its 33rd season Saturday, April 4th. Located in the heart of Downtown Kirkwood just east of the historic Kirkwood Train Station at 150 East Argonne, the market serves as a local landmark, a place to eat, shop and gather with friends. Hare in the Air. With a unique twist on the traditional Easter egg hunt, the hunt at Logan College of Chiropractic features a rabbit that arrives by helicopter. At this free event, kids can watch the rabbit land at 11:30 a.m. and then those ages 2-8 can hunt for eggs. Logan College promises activities for kids of all ages. Bunny Hop. Enjoy an egg hunt, petting zoo, and crafts activities by the Artist’s Guild. 10-11:30 a.m. at Oak Knoll Park in Clayton. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at The Center of Clayton, 50 Gay Ave. More information: 314-290-8561.
Kids ArtStart is a series of free family events focused on the arts. Held on the first Saturday morning of each month from October through April, these events provide young children with an introduction to the arts and give families an opportunity to share the experience. Theatre in the Museum: Teens Make History. Looking for Dunham. 11:30 a.m. Local teens perform FREE plays based on St. Louis history. It's a slow news day for the paper's entertainment reporters when rumors that the great Katherine Dunham is in town start to circulate. Will they find Miss Dunham before the TV journalists get the scoop? Meet in Katherine Dunham: Beyond the Dance.
Storytelling Workshops from Noon to 2:30 p.m.! Storytelling will still take place at 1:00 p.m. Join us in the classroom-turned-kidzone before or after storytelling to play with puppets, make a craft, build a puzzle or escape to the rainbow retreat to read stories on your own. Storytelling workshops will be on hiatus for May and June. Hey Batter-Batter! Just a couple of days before the St. Louis Cardinals start their season, we'll read Hello Fredbird! and other baseball stories. SPECIAL GUEST, FREDBIRD will visit and sit with kids. Bring your camera!
