Mid-Week Shouts Out

This week I'm giving shouts out to Angel Food Ministries.

What is Angel Food Ministries?:
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States.
(that's taken from their website)
I want to add though, because that almost makes it sound as if you need to qualify as 'needy' to receive a month from AFM & that's not the case.

Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month's menu consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60.Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.

Sample Menu:
(this month's menu can be viewed here)

  • 4 lb. IQF Leg Quarters
  • 4 oz. Beef Back Ribs
  • 1 lb. 80/20 Lean Ground Beef
  • 2 lb. Breaded Chicken Tenders
  • 1.5 lb. Bone in Pork Chops (4 x 6oz.)
  • 1 lb. Ground Turkey
  • 18 oz. Stuffed Manicotti (Cheese)
  • 12 oz. Smoked Sausage
  • Betty Crocker Seasoned Potatoes
  • 7 oz. Cheeseburger Dinner
  • 16 oz. Green Beans
  • 16 oz. Baby Carrots
  • 2 lb. Onions
  • 1 lb. Pinto Beans
  • 1 lb. Rice
  • 7 oz. Blueberry Muffin Mix
  • 10 ct. Homestyle Waffles
  • Dessert Item
Go here to see how it works & here to see where you can find a participating church.

Making Great Things with Seasonal Clearance

I often times take advantage of seasonal clearance.

For example, red napkins, clearanced down after Christmas, are perfect for Valentine's Day. Same goes for green (purchased after Christmas, great for St Patty's).

Sometimes I will buy my kids' clothes for the following Christmas, same as I do all of their clothes (buy their coats the season before, once they're marked down).

And candy & other edible goodies?...who cares if it's in a Christmas tree wrapper? (I don't!, chocolate is chocolate!)

So, imagine my delight, when I saw the possibilities for this after-Christmas purchase, cute little metal bucket of 'puppy chow'.
We devoured the puppy chow on New Year's Eve, then I sent my hubby outside w/ the pail & some silver spray paint.

I let it dry & tossed around some more ideas...
Perfect for baked goods.
Or...
A container for my daughter's orange & lime room.

Before you toss it!, think of how it can be reused... you will surprise yourself.

Crazy Huggies Deal at Wags this Week

First of all, my experience at Walgreens has taught me that if I don't get there on Sunday, most of what they have cheap (via good deal or rebates) is gone. So, I encourage you to try to get there today if you can. I'm actually hoping to go before church this morning.

First of all, go to my coupon bar on the right (or click here) & print TWO of the 2 coupons for Huggies (one is for $5 off, the other is $3 off). Actually, print as many as you're able. They also had some super coupons like these at Red Plum.

This week there will be Register rewards: buy $25 in Huggies products and get $10 in Register Rewards back. The jumbo packs will be on sale for $10 each. With three of these coupons you can get three jumbo packs for $5 after coupons and register rewards!

Let me re-explain because it can be confusing:
You have to spend more than $25 in selected huggies products for the $10 RR to print. Since the diapers will be on sale at $10 each you will have to buy three of them to get over the $25. Then use three of the $5 coupons.

Supposedly, there is a Walgreen coloring book (available in the pharmacy?) that has coupons in it. I heard there are more diaper coupons (expiring at the end of the month). But when I went to the pharmacy & asked for the coloring book, she gave me a coloring book, full of coloring pages (but no coups). But if your Wags has these books, use the said coupon for an even better deal!
