What Are You Doing This Weekend? pt 9
This is the part of my website where I tell you about fun things you can do with your family for the weekend...either free or cheap. There is obviously more here than the average family could do, this is so you can have several options. I also tried hard to find activities that are for different age groups, in different parts of St. Louis.
Don't forget...while you are out & about & stopping for lunch, be sure to patronize a restaurant that practices KIDS EAT FREE! (button always on my sidebar too!) Also consider the restaurants.com deal I blogged about the other day (or was that yesterday?) for one of your meals.
Whatever you do, have a sweet weekend with your family!

I love to hear from families who are reading the weekend posts & finding some great ideas. It's motivation! It takes me close to 2 hours to research the activities & post them on here; that's a lot of time for this busy mom, so it helps to know you're benefitting!
Also, if you know of something fun & more importantly, free/cheap, going on in STL or the surrounding areas, please let me know & I will happily add it.
Happy Weekend!

Restaurants.com -- at it again!
I've bragged on our cheap dates before with Restaurant.com. And right now!, they are offering a new code for 60% off the purchase of gift certificates through them.
Team this up with the cash back deal through Cashbaq (clickety click on the cashbaq button on the right, or below), and you can get a $25 gift certificate for just $3.00 (or free if you take advantage of Cashbaq's $5 signup incentive right now)!
Easy-peasy, here's how:
1. Sign up. Sign up with Cashbaq and click through their site to get 25% cash back from any Restaurants.com purchase.
2. Add your gift certificates to your cart (in increments of $25).
3. Enter the code. Enter the code TREAT at checkout (good through 2/15/09).
4. Redeem your GC. Use the gift certificate code generated to select and print out gift certificates to the restaurants of your choice.
What I always tell friends, when sharing restaurants.com with them, is to read the fine print. Some of them are only good M-R, or not on weekends, etc. Also, I've only seen GCs that are only good by themselves & with a minimum requirement.
STILL the best deal by far though!

Coffee Filters

Not only are these cheap, you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Stores for a buck (or in mass quanity on the cheap at Sam's), but sheesh, the usefulness!
COFFEE FILTERS: Not just for making coffee...
1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers & I have issues with plastics, so this is an exciting idea to me. 2. Clean windows and mirrors. Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.
3. Protect China. Separate your good dishes by putting a coffee filter between each dish.
4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.
5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.
6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.
7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.
8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.
9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.
10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.
11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.
12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters.
13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. Soaks out all the grease.
14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor knick fixers."
Thanks for the tips Mom!

Hulu...Who knew
A year or so ago, we came across Hulu, a Hulu is a website that offers commercial-supported streaming video of TV shows and movies from NBC, Fox and many other networks and studios.
And, best yet, it's free.
So, if you care to watch the 'butt-slapping' scene from The Office... or a snippett from Family Guy. You've found the site.
My kids' pick is Jonah. Coming in a close 2nd is the baby commercial from the SuperBowl, "I believe I can fly..."
There aren't a million choices, but, did I mention?....it's free.

Recalls

I love finding great toys at garage sales, resale shops & consignments, & thrift stores. BUT, people who buys things for their kiddos at places like these, have to be careful about recalls. Us 'used consumers' (not that we're used ;) but the stuff we buy is), aren't going ot be getting a RECALL postcard in the mail.
Even things purchased at the store can be found unsafe, and you not know it.
Periodically check the CPSC's list of recalled items, to be sure that the stuff your kids are playing with, is safe.
Labels:
keep your kids safe,
resale,
rummage,
treasured trash
